"Total lead removal!"
"It does exactly what is says on the tin
And it was a real change from having to run the taps every morning."
Scottish Home and Holiday Home owner
Key numbers
2 tons
of water saved in our home per year from flushing pipes in the morning.
£6k
saved in Lead pipe removal from our driveway.
Zero
plastic bottles of drinking water now needed for guests or family when they come to stay.
Our client wanted to remove the lead from their water, without removing all of the pipes from their house
If your property is older than 1975, it's likely that it has lead piping or fixtures somewhere in the system, and replacing pipes can be an expensive process.
In this case study, we explore the problem of consistent lead removal, and show the results of the IF WaterOne purifier.
The problem
"I was running my tap for 3 minutes every morning before drinking the water"
Our client flushed his pipes every day because he knows that drinking water from lead pipes can have a number of negative health impacts including:
- impacting IQ in children
- cardiovascular disease
- kidney disease
- raised blood pressure
Because of this, the current 10 μg/L allowed in tap water, is set to decrease to 5 or even 0 μg/L. This will mean any home with lead will struggle to meet drinking water standards.
"We didn't want anything that would wear out over time"
Our client told us "We'd researched what happened in Flint Michigan where there was a serious Lead problem. Everything on the market looks pretty temperamental or short-lifed."
They had looked up heavy metal and lead water purifier reviews, but unfortunately metals like lead, quickly clog filters and membranes, reducing the purification efficiency over time.
"The cost of replacing the pipes would have been £6,000"
Our clients would need to dig up and replace 100m of driveway to remove the lead going into the house. This is before the cost of replacing the lead work inside and under the house.
Laying pipes can be financially and environmentally expensive. The cost of replacing piped in larger tenement buildings can be much higher.
What we did
We installed a WaterOne purifier
"The install was quick and painless"
After reviewing the best location for the WaterOne, we installed it in the utility room at the back of the house.
This had a clear access to a water source, a drain and electricity, and was ideal also to directly compare source water and WaterOne water.
We tested thoroughly with Scottish Water
As with all customer installs, data gathering is vital at IF. We take regular water samples and quality readings so we can show the consistency of our water over time.
We do this because one of our main advantages, is that our water quality does not change over time, and the more data we can get to prove this the better.
The results
Total and consistent Lead removal without touching a single pipe
"We can now turn our tap on and drink the water straight away, without the risk of lead being in it."
After repeated tests over three weeks, the WaterOne removed all lead, heavy metals and other contaminants consistently and without fail.
Why the WaterOne system works
The vapour distillation process used by IF involves converting water into vapour, then condensing it to produce purified water.
This method has the ability to consistently produce high-purity water, regardless of the variable water quality often found in lakes. It effectively removes a wide range of contaminants, including sediments, biological agents, and dissolved minerals, addressing the challenges of seasonal changes in temperature, algal blooms, and nutrient fluctuations.
Distillation's robust and reliable process ensures a consistent supply of safe drinking water while minimising environmental concerns associated with waste byproducts. Its scalability, low maintenance, and longevity further make it a strong choice for communities and facilities seeking a dependable solution for lake water treatment.
